Troubleshoot Memory

Overview
RAM (Random Access Memory) is essential for short-term system performance. Bad RAM can lead to random reboots, BSODs, or failure to boot entirely.

Tools You’ll Need

  • 🛠️ MemTest86+
  • 🛠️ HWiNFO64 (for real-time monitoring)
  • 🛠️ Windows Memory Diagnostic
  • 🛠️ Spare RAM stick for testing
  • 🛠️ Isopropyl alcohol & microfiber cloth (for cleaning contacts)

Step-by-Step Diagnostic Process

  1. Observe symptoms
    • Random crashes, application errors, freezes
  2. Run Memory Diagnostic Tools
    • Boot into MemTest86+ and let it complete at least 4 passes
    • Log any errors — even one is a red flag
  3. Check RAM seating & cleanliness
    • Power off, reseat all RAM sticks
    • Clean contacts with alcohol if needed
  4. Test with one stick at a time
    • Helps isolate bad module
  5. Try alternate slots on the motherboard
  6. Use BIOS tools to check frequency/timings
